Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck) was an American actress and a singer with a career that spanned 40 years. A torch-singer renowned for her sultry, languid contralto voice, London recorded over thirty albums of pop and jazz standards between 1955 between 1955 and 1969. Her performance of "Cry Me a River", a track she introduced on her debut album, was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for her performance in the role of Dixie McCall, a nurse on the television show Emergency! London was born in Santa Rosa to vaudevillian parents. Her acting career began as an actress while she was employed as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles. London's 35-year acting career began in film in 1944, which included roles for female leads in several westerns, co-starring with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951) as well as Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958) and with Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and alongside Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959). In the late 1950s, she signed a recording contract with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional career. The album she released was her last album of studio recordings in 1969 but achieved continuing success playing the female starring role of nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency! (1972-1979) during which she was a co-star with Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband who produced the show.
