Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic who is also a popular public speech writer. She founded Feminist Frequency which is a website which features video and posts discussing the depictions of females in pop media. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. In her efforts to break down stereotypes related to women in popular culture, she has also been working to address issues relating to gender-specific harassment of women as well as others on the internet. With a master's in social and political thought at York University Sarkeesian is also an extremely sought-after public speaker and she has delivered speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO Festival and the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. Passionate about issues of gender identities and feminisms from at an early age, she created her website Feminist Frequency in the year 2009 when she was studying at the university. This ambitious woman planned to launch an internet program that would examine the gender roles in games and was then the victim of an online harassment campaign. It was not enough to halt her. It actually strengthened her commitment to being a feminist and a media critic. Sarkeesian has been awarded numerous awards in recognition of her many notable contributions to the field of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winner for her work as a media critic. She is also the creator and director of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit organisation that studies pop culture representations of females.
