The early successes of her were boosted by her appearance on several popular television show. She played the villainous Ling Woo. She translated her unexpected fame into major screen roles in films including Shanghai Noon and Charlie's Angels. Following that, she gave an her best performance in Quentin Tarantino Kill Bill Volume 1 as Japanese crime lord O Ren Ishii. Around the same time she was playing the lead role in a few box office failures such as Rise: Blood Hunter.
